| 2012 MX-5 Miata | 2011 MX-5 Miata |
If you are thinking of buying a used Mazda MX-5 Miata in Orange County, California you are thinking of buying the best selling two seat convertible sports car in the world. Since its launch in the 1989 as MX-5 NA, a staggering 900,000 cars had been sold by the beginning of 2011. The success of this car can be attributed to its sleek design, minimal mechanical convolution and modern technology.
Although this sports convertible was received well in the market when launched, two new models were introduced over the years to introduce the latest innovations and technological modifications in the car. The MX-5 NB also known as the second generation MX-5 was introduced in the year 1998 while as 2006 saw the introduction of the MX-5 NC or the third generation MX-5.
The current MX-5 Miata is priced in the mid range roadsters and if you are running a bad credit, a used Mazda MX-5 Miata can be a viable option. The used models will provide you three options on the models and a few more on the trims.
When this roadster was made available for the market initially, it ran on a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder 116 horsepower engine and a five speed manual transmission. The car was available in white, blue and red colors only. In 1994, the engine was upgraded to 1.8 liter 128 horsepower and a special M edition was introduced that had tan leather interior and convertible top and 15 inch BBS wheels. Later that year, R edition was also introduced that received some suspension and drive-train modification along with the addition of BBR (Brodie Brittain Racing) turbo conversion to make it a racing machine. This model had ‘A’ (basic), ‘B’ (semi-luxury), ‘C’ (luxury), M (special edition) and R (racing edition) trims available.
The second generation Mazda Miata (NB) came with the enhanced 1.8 liter 140 horse power engine. An optional 4-speed automatic transmission was made available in addition to the regular 5-speed manual transmission. The upper trims included leather upholstery and Bose audio systems. In the year 1999, two new editions Miata LS and Miata 10AM were introduced out of which the former had three option packages while the later was made available with six-speed manual transmission. The car was available in an exclusive sapphire blue mica (blue) color.
Several small modifications were made over the next five years until in 2004, a new Mazdaspeed edition was introduced with a turbocharged 178 horsepower engine and high performance suspension. The model continued till 2006 after which the third generation Mazda NC took over.
The third generation Mazda NC received several significant modifications including a more powerful engine, better suspension and styling alterations. A front wishbone or rear multilink setup for the suspension replaced the four wheel double wishbone setup and the chassis were more sophisticated. A 16 valve 2.0 liter MZR 170 bhp engine was introduced in this model and the next year saw the horsepower being decreased to 166 due to a change in the SAW testing methodology. Initially available in Club Spec, Base, Touring, Sport, Grand Touring and NC limited edition trims, the car was available in 4 trims only after 2007 with Club Spec and the limited edition being dropped and the based model being renamed to SV. This year also saw the introduction of the power-retractable hardtop.
